![]() Another option would be iClone but it would be a looooong time before you were productive with it. To be up and running right now, today, CTA2 and Buddy World would be the way to go. It also comes with a huge assortment of already made motions, and even has the pseudo-3D aspect of different viewing angles. However, with Buddy World the OP already has access to a slew of South Park style characters without having to create or rig anything. You'll be able to do so much more with a real animation system as opposed to the highly limiting and frustrating CTA2. It is more work to get something going in ASP over CTA, but in my opinion, it's well worth it. If however you'd like to learn to draw/create your own characters, and learn how to rig them, Anime Studio Pro would probably be your best bet. It is pretty much a direct ripoff from South Park. If you really want to do south park style animations, CTA2 with the Buddy World pack will be your best bet. That being said, are there other apps that are similar, but offer better rigging or character creation tools? I'm ok with imperfect animation, as my look is a simplified southpark style. I'm hesitant to upgrade my CTA 1 to CTA 2 when I look at the difficulty in rigging characters. The technology is new and like anything new, it comes with a learning curve. There isn't and there provably wont be one for years. You can actually do this is most 3d apps but you have to rig and sort out all the mappings yourself. Here's the thing, as far as I know CTA2 is the only software that allows you to work with a 2d sprites mapped against a 3d skeletal system in a native way. In terms of whether there is any other tool similar to CTA2. It simply makes use of one of Flash's oldest features called shape morphing, to morph one shape into another to fill in the blanks for you. Also the animation demo above is not 100% frame by frame (its more like 10% FbB) lol, it just looks that way. ![]() ![]() My point being that Flash is a far superior tool when you use properly. Because people should know this is not the case. In your reply, you specifically state that the only way to animate in flash is by using symbols. The question asked was which application similar to CTA2. You could use Photoshop for cel (fbf) animations too, but that wasn't the question asked. Of course drawing each frame, ala frame by frame wouldn't require symbols, but really isn't the same type of animation. ![]()
